What is it?

Chikungunya is a kind of viral fever caused by alpha virus or Chikungunya virus. The disease is spread by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes which are active only during the day time. It’s been over six months since the Chicken Guinea fever outbreak was found in India. In December 2006, about 3,500 confirmed cases occurred in Maldives, and over 60,000 cases in Sri Lanka, with over 80 deaths. There was an outbreak in Italy late 2007, with 160 cases and at the same time there was an outbreak in Kerala with 43,138 cases of suspected Chikungunya.
