Tropical Diseases are the major public health problems in developing countries affecting almost half a billion people. India has a significant share in these health problems having 12-13 million suffering with tuberculosis, 47 million with lymphatic filariasis and about half a million with leprosy. Every year at-least 2 million malarial cases are reported from endemic areas and about 3 million new tuberculosis cases occur annually in India. This institute, which has been serving rural population, is actively involved in research related to local public health problems filariasis and tuberculosis.
