Shri Dhirubhaiji takes over the reigns of MGIMS

Shri Dhirajlal Shantilal Mehta, a chartered accountant and dynamic personality, dedicating considerable time to social cause has taken over the Presidentship of Kasturba Health Society in Jan 2001 to nurture its baby the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences at Sevagram. The Founder President of Kasturba Health Society and Founder Director Dr. Sushila Nayar established Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences as Gandhi Centenary project at Sevagram in 1969 to sensitize young medical students to rural health problems and motivate them to work with human touch in rural areas. Dr. Sushila Nayar, a Gandhian associate, former Central Health Minister well travelled all over India, chose Shri Mehta as vice President to help her in developing MGIMS in its mission to take the advances in health care to the doorsteps of the poor. Associating with MGIMS since 1985, Mr. Mehta helped her in expansion by establishing new research, diagnostic and therapeutic facilities such as Jamnalal Bajaj Tropical Disease Research Centre, CT scan, Radio therapy and other facilities and thus bringing sophisticated health care facilities in the reach of the poor.

            Shri D. S. Mehta, affectionately called Dhirubhaiji by his friends and nearer ones, is a 64 yr young and dynamic personality with B.Com (Hons) of Bombay University. He has been a Fellow member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Institute of Company Secretaries of India and is associated with Bajaj Group of companies since 1966. He has extensive experience in corporate law, taxation, finance and investment. He is a Director of Bajaj Auto Ltd., Mukund Ltd., Mukund Engineers Ltd., Bajaj Hindusthan Ltd., Maharashtra Scooters Ltd., Bajaj Auto Finance Ltd., Bajaj Sevashram Ltd., and number of other companies. He is also chairman of Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, Indore. He is a Trustee of Gujarat Vidya Pith, Ahmedabad which was established by Gandhiji. He is Honorary Joint Director of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai. He is also President of Sivanand Mission, a rural based eye hospital near Rajkot in Gujarat. Shri D. S. Mehta had participated in the JP Movement during Emergency and is presently an Executive Council Member of Gandhi Peace Foundation.

His wife Smt. Nanda Bahenji, is a writer and lively personality actively involved with number of social organizations. They are blessed with a daughter Maitry and son Nirad, both are Chartered Accountants. We are confident that with the extensive experience and commitment for excellence, Shri Dhirubhaiji will take MGIMS to greater heights in the Indian Medical Scene.
