Bioinformatics deals with the various issues related to the biologist data covering development of data analysis tools, modeling of biological macromolecules and their complexes, metabolic pathways, designing of new molecules such as drugs, peptides, vaccines, proteins tec. It encompasses all the aspects of biological information that combines the tools and techniques of mathematics, Computer Science, and biology with the aim of understanding the biological significance of a variety of data.

India was one of the first countries that had taken a giant step in 1986 and established a nationwide Bioinformation System Of India. The programme comprises a distributed database and network system namely Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISnet).

Bioinformatics at JBTDRC, MGIMS

Establishment of Bioinformatics Center at JBTDRC, MGIMS, Sevagram was approved by department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, New Delhi as a part of National Bioinformation Network to establish link amongst Scientists in organizations involoved in Biotechnology related research activities. The center being actively involved in Immunodiagnostic research is providing Bibliographic service and In house training. In addition this center publishes SEVAMED, a quarter Bibliography Journal for dissemination of information on advances in tropical disease research.
