 About  Sevagram

Sevagram was the defacto capital of India during the struggle for Independence. In 1936 Gandhiji identifying himself with poorest of the poor, settled in the remote village of Segaon rechristined as ‘Sevagram’. A small village in the heart of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra state situated 8 kms from the town of Wardha and 77 kms from the city of Nagpur. The crucial meetings of the congress working committee were held here and the “Quit India” resolution was passed in July 1942 at Sevagram.

Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences located in rural setting within 5 minutes. walking distance from Gandhi Ashram, is the First Rural Medical Institute in India established in 1969 as Gandhi Centenary Project under the dynamic leadership of (Late) Dr. Sushila Nayar. During her leadership of 30 years the institute grew into a huge 648 bedded Kasturba Hospital with the state of the art facilities attached to the Medical Institute, which grooms and moulds conscientious doctors every year. MGIMS is a pioneering Medical Institution with its innovative approaches in academic curricula, training of personnel with rural bias and providing health care facilities to rural masses with dedication. The hospital caters to the health needs of the rural people of the surrounding areas and neighboring states. The Institute is presently striving forward under the able guidance of our new President, Shri Dhiru S. Mehta, a man with dynamism coupled with Gandhian Ideals and Passion.

Jamnalal Bajaj Tropical Disease Research Centre is the result of sustained health problem based research activity by the Biochemistry Department for more than two decades at MGIMS, with support from ICMR, CSIR, DST, WHO / TDR, Indo US STI, DBT & KHS. JBTDRC was established in 1994 to expand the Institute’s ongoing Research Programmes in Tropical Diseases such as filariasis and tuberculosis prevalent in this region. The main thrust has been to apply the latest and sophisticated techniques of immunology and molecular biology in developing tools for immunodiagnosis, monitoring, immunoprophylaxis, surveillance and their applications in the field for better management and control of filariasis and tuberculosis.

Bioinformatics Centre at JBTDRC, MGIMS was established in March 1999 with support from Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology as a part of National Bioinformatics Network to establish link among Scientists in organisations involved in Biotechnology related research activities. The Centre is actively involved in research and providing bibliography service & In-house Regional & National level Training courses, Workshops, Seminars, Symposia etc. Beside that this Centre also publishes SEVAMED, a Quarterly update on Infectious Disease Research and Traditional Medicine. This publication has been well received by the medical teachers and scientists through out India. The Centre has thrust on Medical / Health Informatics. This Centre possesses Server-3 (Zenith, Comapaq Proliant 3300 PIII, IBM Server x series), PCs-15, (PIV, PIII, PII), LAPTOP-2, Printers (Laser, Inkjet, Dot-matrix, Photoprinter) running on different systems (Win 95, 98, 2000, Win-XP, Win-NT, DOS) using different packages (MS office 97, PageMaker, Adobe, Microsoft visual studio, Tally etc.) and Medline CD Database. Other equipments available include Switch 24 port, HUB, Desktop LCD projector, Scanner, CD writer, Internet sharer, Zip drive, Pen drive, Flash drive (2), Modem, Fax machine, Canon Photocopier, Canon workstation cum Printer, Xerox workstation cum printer, Godrej Copier cum Printer, Digital camera, Sony Handy Camcorder, OHP, Hp Color Laser jet, etc. Bioinformatics Centre and JBTDRC laboratories are networked through LAN.
Centre has developed database software TbDB, FilaDB, ObSoft, GynSoft, PsySoft for recording & retrieval of data on Tuberculosis, Filariasis, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Psychiatry patient’s related information. Beside that the Centre has also developed CaDB a database on cancer patients registry and ResPub, a database on research publications which help end users have related data at a glance. Proceedings of National Symposium on Medical Informatics & CME on Hospital Information System as a reference book including the basics of computer to advances & its application in Medical Informatics has also been published and  available on www.jbtdrc.org. An e - health info Services related to Health Tourism and Health Informatics shall be soon linked to our site providing free service to the needy users.

 Workshop on Medical / Health Informatics & Biomedical Communication is being organized to expose Medical Teachers, Scientists & PG / Ph D Students to the advances in Medical / Clinical / Health Informatics, Hospital Information System, Telemedicine and areas related to Proteomics, Genomics and Industrial Biotechnology. Interesting Lectures, Demonstrations and Hands on Sessions will be conducted by the Eminent Experts in these areas to promote use of Medical Informatics in health care management and communication, stimulate medical research and the development of patients information related databases.
The number of participants will be restricted to 20, Teachers, Scientists, Postgraduate and Ph.D. students familiar with computers and desire to enhance their skill in the theme related area would be preferred.

The faculty will be drawn from DBT, ICMR,  Bioinformatics Centre, National Research Institutes & Universities. The tentative list of Eminent Speakers includes Dr. N.C. Jain, ICMR, New Delhi; Dr. Amit Sharma, ICGEB, New Delhi; Dr. Sukhdev Singh, NIC, New Delhi; Dr. A.K Sangal, ISRO, New Delhi; Dr. Dileep Bhale, Hingoli, Dr. Shripad Deshpande, BHU, Banaras;  Dr. S.N. Sarbadhikari, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kollam; Dr. G.D. Mogli, Hyderabad and Dr. Monica Gupta, PMC, Karamsad.

Accommodation may be arranged in the Yatri Nivas / Arogyadham complex near the Institute on payment  and first come first serve basis. Advance towards rent (Rs 200/- for two days) should be enclosed along with the registration fee.

Sevagram and Wardha are on railway lines. Nagpur is the nearest airport. Comfortable deluxe buses run from Nagpur to Wardha every half an hour. You may directly reach Yatri Niwas / Arogyadham complex by auto (Approximate fare Rs 40 / 50). Venue is walking distance from the place of accomodation. Participants are advised to make their return journey reservation well in advance.
