Visitors:  

Ø               Dr. Suresh Jalgaonkar, Head, Dept. of Microbiology, Indira Gandhi Medical College visited the Centre on 5th April, 2007. 

Ø           Australian Scientists, Dr. Helen Cox, Specialist in TB Operational Research and DOTS Programme Evaluation at Austian Hospital, Mr. Gerard Casey, Parasitologist at The Royal Melbourne Hospital & Dr. Harsha Sheorey, Microbiologist at St. Vincent’s Pathology visited the Centre to get acquainted with TB work being done at the Centre on 5th April, 2007.

Research Training and Project Work:

Ø               Mr. Keertisheel N. Sahare from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur, Dept. of Microbiology had visited the Centre for the Collaboration study on ‘In vitro screening of herbal plant extracts for antifilarial activity’ on 12th April, 2007.

Short Term Projects in Biotechnology / Bioinformatics:

Ø               Ms. Tarika Chauhan, MSc Biotechnology student from G. H. Raisoni Institute of Information Technology, Nagpur carried out her dissertation work entitled `Isolation of ES - 31 and ES - 43, antigens from detergent soluble sonicate (DSS) antigen by affinity chromatography and exploring its use in detection of pulmonary tuberculosis’ under              Dr. Satish Kumar during January 15 - April 19, 2007. 

Ø                  Mr. Dibyabhaba Pradhan, MSc Bioinformatics from Orissa University of Agriculture & Technoiogy (OUA&T), Bhubaneswar carried out his dissertation work entitled `Development of Software for e - updates on medical tourism and e - learning module of health informatics’ under Dr. Satish Kumar during March 2 - June 9, 2007.

Ø                  Mr. Rajabrata Bhuyan, MSc Bioinformatics from Orissa University of Agriculture & Technoiogy (OUA&T), Bhubaneswar carried out his dissertation work entitled `Development of Software on health information resources and e - learning module of health informatics’ under Dr. Satish Kumar during March 2 - June 9, 2007.

Ø  Ku. Sonal P. Misal from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur completed short-term training course in Biotechnology from 21st May to 21st June,  2007.

Ø               Ku. Kiran G. Pote from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur completed short-term training course in Biotechnology from 21st May to 21st June, 2007.

Participation in Meetings / Conference / Symposia:

Dr. B. C. Harinath
Delivered a Guest lecture on Mycobacterial Excretory Secretory (ES) Protein antigens of interest in diagnosis and immunomonitoring tuberculosis at Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on May 17, 2007.

Dr. Kalyan Goswami, Reader, Dept of Biochemistry has presented DST-FIST Project Progress Report in the DST Meeting held at New Delhi during 28-29th June 2007.

Mr. V. Anandharaman awarded visiting scholarship in the collaborative studies on filarial vaccine development at University of Illinois, College of Medicine, Rockford, USA, from May 2007 to 2008.

Arogyadham :

Dr. T. Kathickeyan visited ‘Hanuman Vyayam Mandal Nature Cure Centre’, Amravati on 2nd April 2007. 

Meetings of Friends of Arogyadham:

            Regular meetings of friends of Arogyadham were held on 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month January, February and March.  Video & Audio clippings on ‘From Creation to Creator’ by Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev; ‘Beyond Myth & Tradition’ by J. Krishnamurti; ‘Mind and Man’ by Swami Parthasarathy’ & Philosophy of life by Smt. Hansaji were screened.

HERBAL GARDEN:

            Work of the wasteland development of about 220 acres behind Medical Institute was started on October 2nd 2002 and developed into Herbal Garden by Jain Charities through JISL. Water is brought by a 5-6 Km. pipeline from Pawnar river.  Presently Aonla (20500), Ritha (50), Karanj (103), Neem (292), Ashoka (155), Custard apple (105), Banana (13000) have been planted under drip irrigation.  Out of total Aonla plants about 3000 plants are flowering and 200 plants have started fruiting.  Application of farm yard manure and neem cake is in progress. 

            Onion seed crop (intercrop in Aonla) in about 25 acres is in harvesting stage.  Banana, another intercrop in Aonla is also being harvested and will be uprooted by the end of April 2007.  This year again ‘Cotton with drip’ is planned for demonstration to farmers in adjoining districts.  This will be sown after 25th May, on an area of about 5 acres between Aonla plants.
