Research Training & Project Work:

 Dr. Adinarayana, Senior Entomologist, Filaria Control Unit, Sattenapalli, Guntur (A.P.) visited the Department and Centre for getting acquainted with filarial diagnostics in October 2004.

Participation in Meetings / Conference / Symposia :

Dr. B. C. Harinath attended the 31st Annual Conference of Indian Immunology Society at Anna University, Chennai during 15th to 18th December 2004 and Chaired the Symposium on Emerging Trends in Infectious Diseases – I .

Dr. M. V. R. Reddy

·        Participated as0.5 Resource person in a seminar on ‘An Approach from Academics to Industry via Synergy’ and delivered a guest lecture on “Enzyme Immunoassay for Infectious Diseases: From R & D to manufacturing” at G. N. Raisoni Institute of Interdisciplinary   Sciences, Nagpur on October 4, 2004.

·    Participated in Project Review Meeting of Task Force on ‘Infrastructure & Centres of Excellence’ at DBT, Delhi on October 29, 2023 and presented the Annual Progress report on the ongoing research project “Repository for Filarial Parasites & Reagents.

·   Delivered a Guest lecture on ‘Molecular studies in filariasis for diagnostics and vaccine development’ at Indo-Israel Workshop on ‘Parasite Genomics’ at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi on November 29, 2004.

·   Delivered a Guest lecture on ‘Towards DNA vaccination against Lymphatic Filariasis’ at 31st Annual National Conference of Association of Clinical Biochemists of India at J. N. Medical college, Belgaum, Karnataka on December 2nd to 4th, 2004.

·   Participated in the Meeting of Subject Experts Committee and presented a grant proposal to DST under ‘Funds for Improvement of S & T Infrastructure in Universities and Higher Educational Institutions (FIST) programme’ at INSA, New Delhi on December 6, 2004.

·   Delivered a Guest lecture on ‘Molecular targets for protective immunity in Lymphatic Filariasis’ at 31st Annual Conference of Indian Immunology Society at Anna University, Chennai during 15th to 18th December 2004.

Ms. Krithika visited Centre of Biotechnology, Anna University, Chennai for training on RTPCR techniques for quantitation of cytokines  during 11th to 20th November 2004.

 

Mr. Pankaj Dabir participated in Indo-Israel workshop on ‘Parasite Genomics’ held at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi during 29th & 30th November 2004.

Dr. D. Ray presented a paper on “Oxidation stress & antioxidant system in sickle cell anemia” in 31st Annual Conference of Association  of Clinical Biochemists of India at J. N. Medical College, Belgaum, Karnataka during 2nd to 4th December 2004.

Dr. S. Health Awareness Camps at Kasturba Nisargopchar Kendra:

As a scientific system of healing, with a “holistic” approach, Naturopathy and Yoga have shown beneficial effects on the “health and disease” of a person. To explain the efficacy and to make the people aware of the various benefits and the need of this system in the modern world, various camps have been conducted at Arogyadham by the Naturopaths Dr.R.Raja Raja Chozhan and Dr. K.Menaga.

    One day health awareness camps were organized during October to December 2004 to bring awareness and understanding of various chronic health problems and their better management by Meditation, Yoga, Naturopathy, Diet and special techniques for specific health problem.

·        9th October 2004               -           Arthritis

·        13th November 2004          -           Diabetes

·        11th December 2004          -           Bronchial asthma

·        19th December 2004          -           Hypertension & Cardiac disease

 

Dr. Pramod Jain, Sr. Lecturer, Dept. of Orthopedics addressed the participants at Arthritis camp.

Dr. O.P. Gupta, Professor, Dept. of Medicine took keen interest in the camp on Hypertension & Cardiac disease and addressed the participants on the causes & complications. 19 patients including 6 doctors attended the camp.

·         One day NATYOG Awareness camp was organized for Lions Club members, Wardha on 8th October 2004. Naturopathy & Yoga Therapists gave lecture & demonstration on ‘Basics of yoga & Naturopathy and its effects’. They also gave dietary guidance for general health. Around 25 members attended the camp.

·         Three days Camp on Yoga & Naturopathy was organized at Kasturba Vidya Mandir, Sevagram during 15th to 17th November 2004. 1 hr Yoga session was conducted to improve the mobility, strength & Co-ordination of muscles for the students of 12-15 yrs of age. Yoga and meditation for 10th standard students were done separately. Counselling and special techniques were given to the students of 9th & 10th standard to improve memory, concentration and attention span. Also focused on other topics such as diet, life style, games etc.

Herbal Garden

              Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. organized One day Vidarbha Farmers Meet and arranged demonstration and lectures on Drip irrigation, water management, GM crops etc. by Dr. Saradraoji Nimbalkar, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola, Dr. Phundan Singh, Director, Central Institute of Cotton Research Institute, Nagpur, Dr. U.D. Thakre, Director, Agriculture Extension & Trainig, Pune, Shri. P. N. Raut, Joint Director, Agriculture and other distinguished experts. About  900 farmers attended the meet.
